Statement:
I feel that the most effective method for conveying the emotional resonance of places may just be to obscure vision and limit clarity, to hint, to use an almost peripheral vision – as if looked at straight on, the understanding represented by these landscapes would evaporate, leaving us only with the peaceful, perhaps even mundane present. It is my hope that the deep shadows and rich atmosphere that make these images not so easily read, also draws the viewer in, inviting imagination to project into places where time seems estranged from the normal flow, the quotidian and the uncertainties of sight and memory are materialized in deeply embodied visions of the land.
