2025 Adelaide Park Lands Art
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
The entry conditions set out below thoroughly cover all aspects of the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize. While seemingly complex, they also contain information you will need to know. PLEASE READ THEM ALL CAREFULLY. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us: info@parklandsart.org.
- The Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize (the APA Art Prize) is awarded by the Adelaide Park Lands Association (APA). All artists are encouraged to enter, including international artists. Entries will not be accepted from any member of the APA committee, any APA sub-committee, nor from anyone involved with the administration or judging of the APA Art Prize.
- Theme: The theme for the APA Art Prize is “Inspire” – to capture the essence of one or more elements of the Adelaide Park Lands as an inspiration for the artwork; and/or to inspire viewers of the artwork.
- Entries: Entries may be submitted via the online entry system at parklandsart.org or by email at info@parklandsart.org. No other form of entry will be accepted.
Entry images must be a high resolution (300dpi) digital file.jpg format with ONE high resolution image of EACH artwork submitted , must be able to be printed as A4 size.
In the case of a three-dimensional artwork, the single high-resolution image may comprise up to four smaller images showing the artwork from different angles.
The Entry Fee of $50.00 ($25.00 for the school student category) is non-refundable.
Artists may submit more than one artwork. Artists must complete the Entry Form available on the website for each individual entry submitted. Incomplete entries or entries that do not comply with the requirements will not be eligible for judging. - Entry deadline: Entries must be submitted no later than 8.00pm, 31 January 2025, Australian Central Daylight Time. Entries open from 31 August 2024.
- Collaborating or contributing artists: Artworks may be made by more than one artist. Additional names can be provided on the Entry Form. All correspondence will be directed to the first artist named on the Entry Form. Any prize money will be paid to the name of the first artist only. Division of prize money between artists is the responsibility of the contact artist.
- Previous entries: Artworks previously submitted and selected as finalists in any earlier iterations of the APA Art Prize are not eligible to enter.
- Size: Two-dimensional artworks shall not exceed 1.8 m (H) x 1.8 m (W), including frame. All work must be prepared for hanging/installation or display by the artist and presented in a professional manner. The Gallery uses a hanging wires system. Three-dimensional artworks must be self-supporting. They cannot be hung from the ceiling or screwed to a wall. Three-dimensional artworks must fit through a standard door when assembled (0.8 m x 2.0 m). No dimension shall be more than 1.8 m., including any supports or ancillary equipment if supplied. APA or the Venue Manager may supply or arrange display furniture at their discretion. A large or unstable three-dimensional work may be rejected by the Venue Manager as being unsuitable even if selected as a finalist.
- Media: Artworks in most forms of media are eligible: painting, drawing, prints, photographs, sculpture, three-dimensional multimedia and digital. While some TV screens may be supplied by the Gallery, any work requiring an electronic display must be formatted ready to display but may require the artist to supply their own display equipment and comprehensive instructions for setup.
- Identification: APA will assign an identifying number to each digital image as it is received. Artwork, until the end of the judging process, will be identified by this number only. Artists may sign artwork if desired and signatures may be covered for the judging process if deemed necessary.
- Pre-selection: Works may be disqualified during preselection (i.e. not provided to the judges) if APA deems the image quality too low, if no image is provided, or if works fail to meet any other condition outlined in these terms.
- The selection process: Finalists’ works will be selected by the judges from the digital image provided and each finalist will be notified accordingly. The selection process will be at the sole discretion of the judges. Finalists’ works will be displayed at the exhibition. The manner of exhibiting artworks shall be at the sole discretion of APA and the Venue Manager.
- Judging: The entries will be judged on their artistic merit and their connection to the theme of the Art Prize, “Inspire”. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
- Delivery: Finalists’ artworks must be delivered in person or sent by courier to the Adelaide Festival Centre at the artist’s expense and shall be free of all charges. Delivery will be in March 2025 on a date to be advised. APA will not pay any expenses for artwork delivery or return. Finalists will be advised about delivery and collection dates and artworks must arrive on the dates and between the times specified in the notification. All work submitted shall be as represented in the image initially provided by the artist. If the work differs from the image or exceeds the size limits, the work will be ineligible for display or judging. Delivery details will be included in the Notice to Finalists.
- Packaging: All finalists’ work delivered by courier or collected in person must be in a suitable container identified by the artist’s name, title of the work and identification number as advised (box, crate, strong envelope as appropriate) for re-packing by APA or the Venue Manager and for collection or return by courier. The container/packaging must be clearly marked with the return address and payment arrangements.
- Loss or damage of works: APA will not be responsible for any loss or damage of works during exhibition or in transit. Artists are advised to arrange suitable insurance for their works. Works that arrive damaged will not be displayed or judged further and the artist will be notified accordingly.
- Insurance: The Venue Manager will insure all works while they are in its custody. This will be to the value of the sale price stated on the Entry Form less commission (artist price). The Venue Manager will not be responsible for uninsured loss or for loss or damage exceeding the insured amount. Neither APA nor the Venue Manager will insure goods in transit.
- Finalists exhibition: The exhibition of finalists’ artworks will be held at the Adelaide Festival Centre, King William Street, Adelaide, from 28 March to 26 April 2025.
- All works for sale: As a condition of entry, all works selected as finalists will be for sale. Works will be displayed during exhibition opening times. Artworks will be available for sale at the opening of the exhibition of finalists and after the announcement of winners, but not before. The Entry Form must include a sale price. The sale price will not be varied for the duration of the exhibition unless negotiated in writing by the artist and APA. Artworks entered as a series of panels or objects will be sold as an entire work.
- Commission: APA will charge 30% commission on all sales. This will be deducted from the indicated price. Any arrangement that an artist may have with a commercial gallery or the like will have no effect on this agreement and is entirely a matter between the artist and the commercial gallery in question. If selected as a finalist, an artist’s agent will be acknowledged alongside a display of the work in the exhibition. Neither APA nor the Venue Manager will enter into discussion or agreement other than with the artist.
- Purchase of artworks: The purchase of any artwork shall be confirmed only by payment in full or a deposit of 20% of the sale price. In the case of a deposit having been paid and the respective purchase being cancelled, APA will retain 30% of the deposit. Payment in full will be made no later than the collection of the artwork by the purchaser. APA will not accept periodic payments.
- Suitability of materials: The artist warrants that the materials used for the artwork are suitable for their purpose. Any dispute regarding the suitability of materials after the artwork is sold is the responsibility of the artist. Any commission already paid to APA is nonrefundable.
- Winners announcement: The prize winners, except the People’s Choice Prize winner, will be announced at the exhibition opening. The People’s Choice Prize winner will be announced at the end of the exhibition in April 2025. Artworks may be selected for no more than two of the designated award categories. All award recipients may receive their prize money from the Adelaide Park Lands Association the day following the announcement of the award categories (or, in the case of the People’s Choice Prize, the day following the end of the exhibition in April 2025.)
- Prize categories: Subject to the sponsorship of any additional commendation/prize and/or category, the range of prize categories and prize money on offer in 2025 will be equivalent to the donation and sponsorship funds raised for this purpose by 31 January 2025, subject to a minimum of $30,000. The award for the first-place category will be $20,000. Awards in all other categories will be valued at $2,500. These other categories include Emerging Artist; Multimedia; First Nations Artist; 3D; Artist living with a disability; School Student (divided equally between primary and secondary students); People’s Choice; and Judges’ Commendations (of which there are four). APA reserves the right to withdraw a prize category if the number of entries does not meet the minimum entries requirement.
- Display of the artwork: All works must be available for display for the duration of the exhibition. At the end of the exhibition, the artist (or purchaser, if applicable) must arrange for the collection of the work from the Venue at the artist’s or purchaser’s expense. Works must be collected from the Venue on the dates and at times stated in the Notice to Finalists.
- Collection of works: Artists are required to collect any of their unsold works at the end of the exhibition. Any works not collected within stated deadlines of the exhibition concluding will be dealt with in accordance with the Unclaimed Goods Act 1987 (SA).
- Reproduction: By entering, the artist consents to images of their work being reproduced and their biographical information and/or photograph being used by APA and/or the Venue Manager without additional compensation for the purpose of advertising or promoting the Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize and/or the Venue.
- Copyright: The artist warrants that the work entered is original, is the property of the artist and does not infringe any third-party rights. The artist shall, at any time requested by APA or the Venue Manager, execute such documents and do such acts as may be reasonably required to perfect the rights granted to them by these Conditions. The artist agrees to indemnify and hold harmless both APA and the Venue Manager and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from any liability or damages of any kind, including legal fees or costs, resulting from any claim of infringement on another proprietary right of any person or entity.
- Confidentiality: APA is the sole owner of the information collected from the entry forms and any other information submitted. Entrants consent to receiving email correspondence from APA. APA will not sell, share or rent this information to any third party, except as above.
