What is the Adelaide Parklands Art Prize?
The Adelaide Park Lands Art Prize (APA Art Prize) is an art competition awarded by the Adelaide Park Lands Association (APA) to inspire artists to capture the essence of the Adelaide Park Lands.
Who can enter the APA Art Prize?
All artists, including international artists, are encouraged to enter. However, entries are not accepted from any member of the APA committee, APA sub-committee, or anyone involved in the administration or judging of the APA Art Prize.
What is the theme for the APA Art Prize?
The theme is to “Inspire” – capturing the essence of one or more elements of the Adelaide Park Lands or inspiring viewers through the artwork.
When can I submit my entries?
Entries will open in August 2024, and the final deadline will be announced. You must submit your artwork within the announced deadline, as late entries are not accepted.
How can I submit my entry?
Entries must be submitted via the online entry system at www.parklandsart.com. Submissions should include a high-quality digital file of the artwork (max size 5MB) and a completed Entry Form.
What is the entry fee?
The entry fee is $50.00 per artwork. The entry fee for Young Artists and School Students is $25.00 per artwork. All entry fees are non-refundable.
What are the prize categories and amounts?
We aim to raise $50,000 to match the 2023 Prize Pool. The final prize amounts will depend on our fundraising success and will be confirmed in August 2024, just before entries. Join us in this effort to support and celebrate our artists to INSPIRE with their art!
Can I submit more than one artwork?
Yes, artists can submit more than one artwork, but each entry must be accompanied by a separate Entry Form and entry fee.
Are collaborative works accepted?
Yes, artworks created by more than one artist are accepted. The Entry Form should list all contributing artists, but only the first artist named will be the primary contact and recipient of any prize money.
What are the size restrictions for artwork?
Two-dimensional artworks, including the frame, must not exceed 1.8m x 1.8m. Three-dimensional artworks must be self-supporting and fit through a standard door (0.8m x 2.0m). No dimension should exceed 1.8m.
What types of media are eligible?
All art media can enter and include painting, drawing, prints, photographs, sculpture, 3-dimensional multimedia, and digital works.
How are the entries judged?
The selected judging panel judges entries on artistic merit and their connection to the theme. The judges’ decisions are final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
When will the finalists be notified?
Finalists will be notified after completing the selection process based on the digital images submitted within 4 weeks after entries are closed.
Am I an emerging artist?
Emerging artists are those that meet all of the following:
a) they have not had a significant exhibition of their work in a commercial (a physical or online business that represents and sells the work of artists as their primary business) or public gallery (a gallery or museum, whether privately or publicly owned, that holds public exhibitions of artworks, but is not primarily in the business of selling art and the space has not been rented by the artist)
b) they have not received an award, grant (including residency) or commission for their artwork or art practice (excluding those specifically for students or young and emerging artists)
c) their work has not been acquired by a public, institutional, corporate or significant private collection (for example, the collections of government organisations, museums, art galleries, hospitals, universities, churches, and large corporations or private collections with an established public profile), and
d) they do not earn 50 per cent or more of their income from the sale of artworks, or on the basis of their recognised expertise as an artist (for example, as an academic, teacher, workshop facilitator, etc.).
How should finalists deliver their artwork?
Finalists must deliver their artworks in person or by courier to Adelaide Festival Centre at their own expense. Delivery details will be provided in the Notice to Finalists.
Are all artworks for sale?
Yes, all artworks selected as finalists will be for sale. The sale price must be provided by the artist in the Entry Form and will not be varied during the exhibition. APA will charge a 30% commission on all sales, deducted from the sale price.
When will the winners be announced?
The winners will be announced at the exhibition opening, and the People’s Choice Prize winner will be announced at the end of the exhibition.
